Meet Cyrus, one of the friendly faces behind our 24/7 Carecall service, helping people across Stockport live safely and independently at home.
While most of us are working, relaxing, or sleeping, Carecall’s dedicated team are always on hand to answer calls and respond to emergencies. Whether it’s a fall, a door opening unexpectedly, or simply someone needing reassurance, we’re here every hour of every day.
Supporting independent living for nearly 40 years
Carecall has been helping people remain safe at home for almost four decades in the Stockport area. Using technology-enabled care such as personal alarms, fall detectors and door sensors, our team provide round-the-clock monitoring and rapid response whenever help is needed.
Every call and every alert that comes through our Alarm Receiving Centre is handled by trained professionals who can instantly access essential information from medical conditions to first point of contact details to make sure the right help is given, right away.
“No two days are ever the same”
Response Officer Cyrus joined Carecall in 2024 and loves the variety the role brings.
“There’s always something slightly different about each situation,” he says. “That variety is what I really enjoy.”
During a typical shift, Cyrus and his colleagues might deal with anything from a triggered bed sensor to a door alert in the middle of the night. If an alert needs further action, the team quickly decides what the best next step is from contacting a family member, sending out a responder, to calling emergency services.
Real stories, real reassurance
One recent alert came from the home of a woman living with dementia. A door sensor had activated late at night, but Cyrus quickly confirmed that it was her husband returning home.
“It might feel like a small thing,” he says, “but that technology means she can stay safely at home with her husband and that’s what really matters.”
The response team are also trained to provide in-person support. Cyrus recalls arriving at a customer’s home after an alarm went unanswered, finding the lady had fallen but wasn’t hurt. Using a specialist lifting device known as the ELK (nicknamed the 'whoopee cushion' by the team), he helped her back to her feet safely and with dignity.
“You always have to be ready,” Cyrus explains. “You never know what’s coming next.”
Always ready to respond
With three fully equipped response vehicles and colleagues working in shifts from early mornings to late nights, Carecall ensures someone is always ready to respond, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
It’s not just emergencies, either. The team also carries out planned visits, such as installing new systems or setting up medication reminders, giving customers and their families extra peace of mind.
“It’s all about helping people live independently. It’s a great service because it helps people stay in their own homes longer, safely and independently,” Cyrus says.
Since joining the team, Cyrus has found his work deeply rewarding.
“Some days I’m in the office, others I’m out in the community,” he says. “That balance keeps things interesting and it’s great knowing you’re making a real difference every day.”
