Each year, Dementia Awareness Week (19–25 May 2025) offers a vital reminder: dementia doesn’t just affect memory — it changes lives. It also reminds us that awareness, empathy, and accessible support can empower people to live confidently and safely.
At Carecall and within the Independent Living Team, we're working together throughout 2025 to promote understanding, encourage community, and offer meaningful solutions to those living with dementia and their carers.
Promoting Awareness Across Stockport throughout 2025, our Independent Living Team has been leading Dementia Awareness activities across sheltered and extra care schemes in Stockport. Their work is rooted in the belief that understanding the challenges older customers face is key to delivering compassionate and effective services. Here’s a snapshot of this year’s powerful activity:
April: The Cultures Together Group hosted an informative talk from the Alzheimer’s Society, exploring how cultural and religious beliefs shape our understanding of dementia. The session brought together tenants and community members for a meaningful afternoon of shared learning.
May: At our regular scheme coffee mornings, we’ve welcomed Keep On, Keep Up (KOKU), who demonstrated a falls prevention and strength-building app for older adults. Tenants now have access to the app on shared tablets, continuing the exercises together at future gatherings.
June: On Friday 20 June, we’ll proudly support the Alzheimer’s Society Forget Me Not Tea Party, hosting events across our schemes to raise awareness — and funds — for dementia support. Every cake, cup of tea, and conversation helps make a difference.
To mark Dementia Awareness Week, we’ve also distributed informative literature and displayed posters across our schemes, ensuring all residents are aware of the opportunities to learn, engage, and connect.
How Carecall Helps People Living with Dementia
- 24/7 Emergency Response
Carecall’s monitoring service means that help is available any time, day or night. With just the press of a button on a wearable pendant or wristband, trained staff can respond, assess the situation, and act. - Fall and Movement Detectors
Specialist sensors detect if someone has fallen or is moving around unusually — especially helpful for people who may wander at night or become disoriented. - GPS Trackers & Door Sensors
Carecall offers GPS tracking devices and door sensors that alert carers if someone has left the home unexpectedly, allowing for a quick response and greater peace of mind. - Medication Reminders
Automatic prompts help ensure that vital medications are taken on time — reducing risk and giving family members confidence that routines are being followed. - Reassurance for Families
Perhaps the most important aspect: families don’t have to feel alone. With Carecall, you have a responsive team and smart tools that help loved ones stay safe, maintain independence, and reduce the strain on carers.
