When someone you love is living with Alzheimer's or dementia, it's often the everyday things that cause the biggest worries. You might find yourself wondering whether they've remembered to take their medication, whether they're settled for the evening, or what would happen if they needed help and weren't sure what to do. While families do everything they can to support their loved ones, having extra reassurance can make a huge difference.
Many people know Carecall for our 24/7 pendant alarm service, but we also offer a range of telecare solutions designed to provide additional support at home and help people remain independent for longer.
Door sensors
For people who may become confused or leave home unexpectedly, door sensors can alert our Monitoring Centre when a door is opened. We can then check everything is OK and provide support if needed. Alerts can also be tailored to particular times, such as overnight, when families may have greater concerns.
Bed Sensors
For people who may be at risk of falling during the night, bed sensors can provide an extra layer of reassurance. The sensor can detect when someone gets out of bed during agreed monitoring periods and raise an alert if they don't return within a set timeframe, allowing us to check that everything is OK.
Chair Sensors
Chair sensors are designed to help identify potential falls or wellbeing concerns. If someone leaves their chair and does not return within a pre-set period, an alert is sent to our Monitoring Centre so that we can check on their safety and offer support if needed.
This is especially useful for people who spend long periods sitting and may be vulnerable to falls when moving around their home.
Medication reminders
Remembering to take medication can become more difficult over time. Medication reminders provide prompts throughout the day and can alert our Monitoring Centre if a reminder isn't acknowledged, helping to ensure support is available when it's needed.
Monitored smoke detection
Many homes already have smoke alarms installed, but if one activates, would the person know how to respond? Our monitored smoke detector doesn't just sound an alarm. It also connects directly to our Monitoring Centre, allowing us to check on the person's safety and arrange emergency assistance if required.
No two people's experiences of Alzheimer's or dementia are the same, but having the right support in place can help ease some of the everyday worries that families face.
For many people, knowing that help is available 24 hours a day provides reassurance, confidence and peace of mind, while allowing their loved one to continue living safely and independently at home.
This World Alzheimer's Month, we're raising awareness of the support available for people living with dementia and the families who care about them.
